Abstract
Traditional crafts such as palm frond weaving, palm fiber twisting and rope making, and net making are among the most widely used crafts that utilize available natural resources in the Egyptian environment. As sustainable development has recently garnered global attention, the research aimed to conduct an analytical study of these traditional crafts to innovate women''s fashion designs using draping techniques on mannequins. The goal is to achieve sustainable development and preserve these crafts from extinction. The study focused on creating women''s clothing designs for the age group 20–35 using mannequin draping techniques, producing a total of 18 designs divided as follows:(6 designs inspired by palm frond weaving techniques, 6 designs using palm fiber twisting techniques, 6 designs utilizing net-making techniques). The research tools included specialized questionnaire forms for expert judges and consumer feedback. The study followed both descriptive-analytical and experimental methodologies. findings revealed consensus among the expert judges on the proposed designs. Statistically significant differences were observed in the judges'' average ratings regarding the success of incorporating traditional crafts into the designs, achieving design principles and elements, innovation, and age-appropriateness. Additionally, there were statistically significant differences in the consumers’ average ratings for the proposed designs across the entire questionnaire. Both experts and consumers agreed on the success of the second design, with a satisfaction rate exceeding 99%. The researchers recommend further studies on traditional crafts and their application in fashion design to promote sustainable development.
