The Effectiveness of a Training Program for Developing the Skills of Children with Mental Needs using Educational Technology

Abstract

The main objective of the research is to study the effectiveness of a training program to develop the skills of people with mental needs using educational technology for a group of mentally handicapped and educable children whose IQ ranges from 55-75 to help them rely on themselves in carrying out some of the tasks and skills necessary in their daily lives, determining the level of skills. The mentally handicapped child is able to learn using the computer. And studying the relationship between some social variables and the level of skill development of the mentally disabled child with its dimensions. And revealing the difference in the development of the skills of the mentally disabled child in its dimensions according to (gender, mother's work, family monthly income, activities practiced by the child(. The study tools included a general data form for the mentally handicapped child. A scale of the level of self-care skills, language communication, and social communication. A multimedia-based computer program to develop life skills of self-care, language communication, and social communication. A notecard to note the child's performance while the program is being implemented. The total sample consisted of 80 boys and girls ranging in age from 4-7 years who were randomly selected from the lists of centers affiliated with the Resala Association in Shibin El-Kom, and the experimental sample consisted of 30 boys and girls who were deliberately chosen from the lowest skill level quadrant of the total sample for the purpose of implementing a program Training by educational computer over 7 sessions. The research method included the descriptive-analytical method and the quasi-experimental method. The statistical analysis was done using the SPSS program and following the appropriate statistical methods to reach the following results. -There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group in the two applications, the pre and post applications, according to the observation card in favor of the post-application, which indicates the effectiveness of the computer and multimedia program, the development of skills of interdependence care, social communication, and language development, and the presence of statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the children of the experimental group in the post-application of the observation card of practical skills in favor of the experimental group. There is a positive correlation with statistical significance between the mean scores of the children of the experimental group in the post-application of the program and the observation card of practical skills.
