Relation Between Human Characteristics of Design Elements of Elderly Homes and Each Of Psychological Health and Life Satisfaction

Abstract

The main objective of this research was to study the relationship between human characteristics of design elements of elderly homesand Each of Psychological Health and Life Satisfaction. The study was carried out on an accedental sample consisted of 78 elderly male and female. This sample was drawn from private homes, governemental homes and non governemental organization (NGO’S) homes, the total number of homes was seven.
      Three questionnairs were designed to collect data, two of them concerned with collecting data from the design of the homes and the elderly rooms, the third questionnaire was designed to collect data of the elderly characteristics. In addition, two measurements were used to measure psychological health and life satisfaction among the sample. Statistical analysis was done to find out frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviation, chi square, and simple correlation coefficient using SPSS Program.
       Results indicated that fair level of human characteristics of design elements regarding general spaces was 71.8 %, in the mean time it was 51.3% in elderly private rooms (i.e. privacy, safety, adjustment and beautifulness). Results also indicated that 43.6% of the sample suffered from high level of psychological symptoms. Fair level of life satisfaction was found among 69.2 % of the elderly.
