The Use of Crochet Art to Produce Head Coverings Quoted from Cartoon Characters for Children with Cancer

Abstract

The study aimed to overcome the problem of hair loss of children with cancer by taking advantage of crochet art in the production of head coverings. It also aimed to please these children by quoting hair forms of cartoon characters. Furthermore, it explored the possibility of adding search results to clothing and textile academic courses in addition to finding new design solutions for beautifying the head coverings through the use of crochet art. Ten head coverings were produced by the use of crochet stitches. Two questionnaires were used for evaluation. The first one consisted of three aspects and a number of specialists used it for evaluation, while the second one was directed to the evaluation of children with cancer. Results showed that implemented products had achieved a degree of acceptance and success in light of specialists' evaluation mean scores for design, functional, and economic aspects. Results also revealed that there was a statistically significant difference (α=0.05) among the mean scores of evaluators for all evaluation aspects. Furthermore, findings indicated that implemented products achieved a degree of success and agreement in light of the mean scores of evaluation of children with cancer, but there was a lack of agreement between the evaluations of specialists and children with cancer for produced head coverings that used crochet art.
