Abstract

The main objective of this research was to study Standards of Choosing of Furniture and Furnishings Leather and Effect of Some Caring Methods of Upholsry Leather on Its Beauty, Functional and Economic Characteristics. The study consisted of two parts .The first part was field study. Data were collected from 190 housewives using a questionnaire. The second part was laboratory study. It was carried out on black leather upholsry samples to study the effect of using different caring substances on physical, mechanical and chemical characteristics of the leather. These characteristics reflect the standards of beauty, function and economy of furniture and leather upholsry.
Different statistical tests were used to analyze data using SPSS program (ver15). Statistical methods included: percentages, frequencies, mean and standard deviation, qui-square, simple correlation coefficient and one way analysis of variance. Results show that :
1-      Field study results:

There was a significant relationship (0.01) between each of marital status, educational level of the housewives and choosing, caring, beauty, functional and economic standards of leather upholsry.
There was significant relationship (0.01) between each of educational level of both housewives and husbands and monthly income and choosing, caring, beauty, functional and economic standards of leather upholsry.
There  was a significant correlation (0.01) between beauty and functional standards of choosing leather furniture and upholsry and preference of  owning them, and at 0.05 level between economic standards of choosing leather and furniture upholsry and preference of owning them

2-   Laboratory study results:

There was significant difference (0.01) between physical, mechanical and chemical characteristics of the leather treated by different caring substances with regard to mass per unit area of the leather. These results reflect economic standards and breaking force and elongation (strip method), these two characteristics apply to the functional standards.
