The relationship between some socioeconomic characteristics and patterns of rationalization of household electricity consumption

Abstract

The main aim of the present research was conducted to assess the relationship between the socioeconomic characteristics and patterns of rationalization of electricity consumption.                                          
    Data were collected through personal interview with 36 women in the Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University using a specially questionnaire sheet through a personal interview. Frequency, percentages and chi square test were used for statistical analysis of data.                                                                                
      The results showed that 75% from women aged group less than 25 years and most of them are married and studying college and 72.2% of them are employed and the majority (52.8%) of their husbands aged in 30-35 years and 69.5% were highly educated and monthly income was more than 1,000 Egyptian pounds, social level was moderate to low. And more half of respondents (55.6%), the number of members between 3-4 members.than
      All women have a lot of home appliances (refrigerator and washing machine, television and iron, heater and Vacuum cleaner), while (19.1%)  of women  make air conditioning. Maintenance and about one-third of women (33.4%) wash clothes in Maghreb period to isha period and most of women (63.9%) used C .F.L . (30.5%) of them put the refrigerator next to heat-emitting sources, and (63.9%) left the refrigerator door open 1-2 minutes          .     
          More than half of the sample belongs to the category of the value of the electricity bill (100 -200 Egyptian pounds a month) in the summer and winter months. The results indicated that the majority of the families belong to the middle and low rationalization of electricity.         
         The statistical analysis of data show that the relation between the value of electricity bill in the summer months and number of  home electrical appliances (air conditioner ,  refrigerator   , washing machine, computer and vacuum cleaner ,electric oven and television)was highly  significantly
       There was also no relation between women education, social level to the families of the respondents , household income and the value of e electricity bill in the summer and winter months. The study recommends using compact energy saving lamps and the separation of household electrical appliances when you do not need it and the work of periodic maintenance of these devices, and also not to use them in peak where more than loads period (from Morocco to isha) until we achieve the guiding policies of community power to rationalize for the benefit of the citizen and society.
