The role of the woman in managing the household wastes and its effect on the environmental awareness as an approach to the sustainable environmental development

This study aims to identify the role of the woman in managing the household wastes and its effect on the environmental awareness as an approach to the sustainable environmental development. The study sample consisted of 174 women from the urban and rural areas in Al Daqahliya governorate. They belonged to different socio-economic classes. The researcher prepared and used the general data application, the questionnaire of the household wastes management, and the questionnaire of the environmental awareness. The study used the descriptive methodology. The findings revealed that there was a positive correlation between the household wastes management and the environmental awareness. It was demonstrated that the woman's level of the household wastes management was low in the sample "53.4 %", and the level of the environmental awareness was also low"54.1%". There were also statistically significant differences in terms of the wastes management according to some variables of the study ( the woman's job-the place of residency – the family size – the duration of marriage – the educational level of the parents – the family average income) for the non- working woman, the rural woman, the medium – sized family, the long- time marriage, the higher educational level, and the medium average income at the significance level of  0.001. There were also statistically significant differences in terms of the environmental awareness according to the variables of the study for the rural woman, the small-size family, the long-time marriage, the higher educational level, and the medium average income at the significance level of 0.001. There were no statistically significant differences between the working and non – working women in terms of the environmental awareness. The researcher suggested a directive program for the woman to recognize the scientific methods of the household wasted management in order to achieve the environmental development.
