Reasons for not contributing Libyan women to the economic workforce

Abstract

The national statistics indicates that the women in Libya have established a relative improvement in her educational and professional status. despite of equal rate of women enrolment in different educational institutions relative to those of men, there are still under the desired level of work in different economic activities in the Libyan society . To encourage the woman for working in economic activities to contribute in the whole development movements in the society, this research intended to know the reasons which prevents a sample of women in work market and suggest a set of recommendations to improve her level of participation in work market. The results of this study which held in Ain Zara, locates south of Tripoli, in research sample  which consists of simple random sample from the records of educational schools in the counties of Fernaj and Hurria, consists of fifty women; their average age is 35.98 years, the questionnaire random samples divided into two 23 married and 27 unmarried show. Over half of the sample population has finished secondary school or above this level have reach 60% with presence of some differences in behavior.  The results also showed that the main preseasons which prevents most of the women in the society from having enrolled in economic activities, are due to no permissions given by their fathers or husbands to work outside the house but take care of their house and children. Also, It showed, that their un enrollment in work was due to absence of work fields suitable for their abilities in their regions as well as their taking care of children and other house responsibilities which considered as the main problems which prevent them from having those economic activities in the society. Three important recommendations can be drawn from this study. First, It is necessary to support the effort toward normal and practical education to develop women abilities to practice home production. Second, to encourage and support the family productive programs as it is the essential factor in Libyan development, since it helps women to work at her house according to her personal circumstances. Third, support cultural and occupational educational programs through the suitable media to clarify positive effects toward family happiness and satisfaction, as well as the induced awareness of the family members who are able to work for providing the needs to necessitate the obligatory contribution
